Weekending..... Cape Cod Edition

Monday, August 10, 2015

Happy Monday everyone :) I am linking up (albeit a tad late haha) with B Loved Boston and Champagne and Suburbs for Weekending...

Why am I posting late? I was in Provincetown, MA (the very tip of the Cape) for the weekend and got home around 11:30 last night. Because I write most of my blog posts in "real time," I wasn't able to get together a post for this morning. So, I have a special evening post for you all :)

Almost ten years ago, my family (sisters and parents) started to take an annual summer trip to Provincetown, MA to visit my uncles. My Uncle Donald (my dad's brother) is a school teacher in Boston, MA and spends his summers in Provincetown. Some of my best memories are from our vacations to the Cape. We were lucky that my uncle always found us a place to stay, and always spent the week hanging out with us. There are honestly so many things to do in Provincetown. The shopping is amazing and stretches the length of their "main street" known as Commercial Street. The food there is incredible-- my suggestions (if you are ever in the area) are Pepe's, The Red Inn, Local 186, Victor's, and Patio American Grille. There is also so much history encompassing Provincetown.  From the original site the Pilgrims landed- contrary to popular belief, Plymouth, MA is not originally where the pilgrims landed-- to it's Portuguese heritage, the historian in you will not be disappointed (suggetsion: take the trolley tour! It is awesome, and you get to see so many amazing parts of Provincetown AND learn the history behind it).If you appreciate art, there are plenty of galleries in the East End to satisfy your artistic side. Even if you are a beach person and love views of the ocean, Provincetown is  the perfect place! Provincetown not only sits on the bay side of Cape Cod (Herring Cove), but the Atlantic Ocean side (Race Point Beach). There is also a large part of Provincetown that is part of the National Seashore, an initative to preserve the nature and beauty of the Cape. If you are adventorous, bike/hike the trails found throughout the National Seashore-- you will not be disappointed.

While it is definitely suggested to spend at least 5 days in Provincetown (by my calculation), it is possible to spend a restful and relaxing weekend there.

{FRIDAY}

- My mom, my sisters (Jocelyn and Nicole), and I headed to Provincetown, MA Friday night (we left around 7 pm). This was one of the best decisions we made! We were able to get to my uncles' place in three hours. This may seem like a long time, but if we had traveled on Saturday, it would have taken us closer to five hours-possibly even six-- due to traffic. We settled in Friday night, and went to bed-- we knew we wanted to go to the beach Saturday!

{SATURDAY}
- After a delicious breakfast of eggs, English muffins, homemade jam, bacon, and fresh fruit, the girls headed to the beach. Even though my uncles live near the beach, they are not huge beach people! My sisters, mom, and I stayed on the beach for quite a few hours just enjoying these beautiful views of the Atlantic Ocean:

- After an amazing day at the beach, we headed back to my uncles' house to shower and freshen up before dinner. While I was waiting to get ready, this was my view:

- How beautiful is this place?!
- We ended up having dinner at the Patio American Grille. I got the most amazing fish and chips there! I love the atmosphere there and the waitstaff is amazing. The company wasn't too bad either ;)

- Saturday night we were all pretty tired, so we decided to stay in and watch "Home." The parts that I saw (before I fell asleep) were really cute! I loved the premise of the movie- I just wish I could have stayed awake!

{SUNDAY}
- In the morning, my mom and I walked into town to get coffee and pastries at a Portuguese bakery, Connie's. Even though it was cool and misting outside, I enjoyed the walk with my mom.
- When we got back to the house, my Uncle Harold was making Monkey Bread! A lot of carbohydrates were consumed that morning!
- The weather was cool and rainy for the greater part of the morning, so we decided to forgo the beach. We hung around the house, and just relaxed! It actually ending up working out because my sister Jocelyn was pretty sick with a 24 hour bug so we didn't want to be too far from her if she needed anything.
- The weather cleared up, so my mom, Nicole and I took a walk around the West End of town jealously looking at the gorgeous houses and beautiful bay.

- Sunday afternoon, I spent some more time relaxing and reading

 I even had a buddy with me.

- Sunday night, my Uncle Donald made an amazing meal which included grilled chicken, homemade potato salad, mozzarella/tomato/basil/balsamic vinegar salad, and a fresh green salad. It was delicious!
- After dinner, I packed up my things as I was heading home on the Boston Harbor Cruises fast ferry. If you are ever in Boston, MA on vacation, you can take the fast ferry (takes about 90 minutes) to Provincetown for a day trip. I would highly recommend it!
- On my way to the ferry, I was craving (pregnancy craving excuse haha) ice cream, so I got the best chocolate chip ice cream with rainbow sprinkles!
- When I boarded the ferry, the captain was quick to state that the water was a little choppy. I instantly got nervous. I hadn't taken any Bonine, nor did I have my pressure point bracelets! Now while I don't usually get extremely seasick, I have gotten nauseous on ferries in the past. The captain was right-- it was a little choppy! I got slightly nauseous, but thankfully I fell asleep most of the way! I have never been so happy to see land!
- Even after such a great weekend, I was ready to be home and see my husband!

I hope you all had a great restful weekend :)
